Since 2020 Kaiwhakangau has been connecting local food banks on the East Coast
with wild caught organic venison mince.
Rob and Lisa (and Com and Tui when they are able) regularly head up the east coast to Puketoro Stn which is 40 mins inland from Tokomaru Bay. Leigh, one of the station owners initially approached Rob and Lisa to see if they would be interested in helping cull deer on their land and gift the meat to families on the coast.
The Journey
It was during one of these trips when Com and Tui had joined Rob and Lisa that the dream of Kaiwhakangau was born.
Not only did we give birth to an outdoor clothing range but we began to visualise something
that went beyond culling few deer.
Hunters from all around the district started to support this kaupapa. Donating deer from their weekends hunt.
Mum’s and dads from a local kura learning to break down and process deer. They will go on and learn to cook the venison with some lovely healthy recipes.
Volunteers from all walks of life love to help prepare the meat for the butcher.
